N. Wayne Merrill

Nathan Wayne Merrill died at home, December 3, 2014 at the age of 82. He was born September 16, 1932 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Nathan Warren and Mamie Leavitt Merrill. Their family resided in Annis, Idaho. He was a student at Midway and Rigby High Schools before attending Rick’s College. He later served an LDS mission to the North Western States and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1957 in accounting. He married Elaine Christensen on November 20, 1964 in the Idaho Falls Temple, and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They made their home in Devils Lake, North Dakota, Omaha, Nebraska and Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were blessed with three children, Judy, Peggy, and Jeff. In addition to his accounting career, Wayne served on the Board of Directors at Electrical Wholesale and, until recently, as a volunteer for SCORE. He served faithfully in various church callings and was an invaluable support to many bishops as ward clerk. Notably, he served as a kind and gentle caregiver to family members over the years. Blessed with the greenest of thumbs, he used his talent to thrill the palates of many around him. He loved fishing with his brothers and family, or just watching his grandkids. His kind, self-deprecating, and humble way will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife Elaine; daughter, Judy (Greg) Shippen of Austin, TX; daughter, Peggy (Mark) Barrie of Idaho Falls; son, Jeffrey (Ann) Merrill of Laie, HI; brothers, Louis, Lamont, Stanley, Reed, and Ross Merrill; sisters Phyllis Johnson and Cristeen Kinghorn. 4 grandsons and 4 granddaughters. Preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Clayton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Ammon 8th Ward Building (2055 S. Ammon Rd.) The family will visit with friends Sunday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood East Side (963 S. Ammon Rd.) and Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial in Ammon Cemetery.
