Myrtis Elaine Brian Hicks, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 25, 2022, at the Gables of Idaho Falls Assisted Living. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, in November 2015.
Her ancestry traces back for hundreds of years to early Louisiana settlers. She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on November 6, 1932, to Effie Lollie Bennett Brian and Ernest Dewitt Brian, her parents having roots in the Slaughter and Zachary area. She was the youngest in a large family of eleven children. She graduated from Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge. She went on to study at the Business College in Baton Rouge. Her training as a legal secretary qualified her for several positions. Among them was the law firm of Watson, Blanche, Wilson and Posner. She went on to also work for Kaiser Aluminum, Rockwell International in Richardson, Texas, and the Richardson Independent School District.
She met and married Theodore Arthur Hicks of Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1953. They established their home in the Baton Rouge area where Ted attended Louisiana State University.
Myrtis was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She gave numerous hours of service in the Stake Relief Society and Primary organizations. She was a wonderful example of love and sympathy as she served as a dedicated visiting teacher over the years. Leading the music in the church has remained one of her lifetime joys.
She leaves six daughters, Janelle (Earl) Norris of Midway, Utah, Elizabeth Woolstenhulme of Idaho Falls, Lisa (David) Prier of Huntsville, Texas, Jennifer (Kirkmichael) Moore, Deanna Hicks of Idaho Falls, and Rachel (Greg) Gibson of Ashville, N.C. She leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two grandchildren, Christiana and Emma.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, 4602 South Yellowstone Highway, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402.
Flowers may be sent to Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, or if you would like, donations in Myrtis’ name can be made to the Idaho Falls Zoo http://www.tpzs.info/donate/ where Myrtis spent cherished time with her daughter, Deanna.
