Murry Irving Byington, 90, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 15, 2017, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community. Murry was born September 27, 1926, in Poplar, Idaho, to John Parley Byington and Marguerite Brennetta Smith Byington. He grew up and attended schools in the Ririe area, and after serving his country in World War II as a paratrooper, returned to graduate from Ririe High School. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Ohio region. On May 16, 1950, he married Audrey Mary Wheeler in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union were born five children, Benita, Sue, Alan, David, and Byron. He worked in the mines at Butte, Montana, and as security out at the AEC site before returning to take over some of his family farm. He grew hay, grain, beets, peas, and always potatoes. Murry and Audrey made their home in Ririe. After 60 years of marriage, Audrey passed away on October 4, 2010. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as a dedicated home teacher and had callings in Young Mens organizations and the temple. He enjoyed bowling, square dancing, and anything that took him out in God’s country--drives, motorbikes, snowmobiles. In his last years he appreciated the time he had to spend playing with his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. Murry is survived by his daughter, Benita (Bob) Ryne of Las Vegas, NV, daughter, Susan Prebble of Iona, ID, son, Alan (Toni) Byington of Wilmington, OH, son, David (Erika) Byington of Idaho Falls, ID, son, Byron Byington of Idaho Falls, ID, sister, Neva Peterson of Rigby, ID, 24 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Audrey, a grandson Zachary Manwill, ten brothers, and two sisters. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the Ririe LDS 2nd Ward, 14061 North 130 East, with Bishop Jason Peterson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery where Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
