MORRIS R. HILLYARD
IDAHO FALLS, ID --
Morris R. Hillyard, 75, of Idaho Falls, died suddenly December 1, 2006, at a Salt Lake City hospital of an apparent heart attack.
He was born May 9, 1931, in Spanish Fork, Utah, the son of A. Lowell and Lucille Rosenbaum Hillyard. He grew up in Smithfield, Utah, and graduated from North Cache High School.
He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Traveller, June 6, 1951, in the Logan, Utah Temple.
He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and earned the rank of Master Sergeant in the Utah National Guard. He was proud to be a War Veteran and enjoyed taking other Veterans to Salt Lake City to visit the VA Hospital for medical checkups.
He graduated from Utah State University with a degree in industrial management. He worked for several contractors at the Idaho National Laboratory during his 43 year career. He worked in employment services and recruiting and served in various management positions. He received many honors from the INL for his hard work and dedication.
He was active in the community, serving as a member of the Ammon Planning and Zoning Committee, president of the Ammon Lions Club, a member of the Bonneville County Personnel Council, local Utah State University Alumni Association, and a volunteer at the Museum of Idaho. He helped with construction of the Sandy Downs Rodeo Grounds.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many leadership positions including Bishop, Stake Clerk, High Counselor and officiator at the Idaho Falls temple. He and his wife served missions in Jackson, Mississippi and Temple Square in Salt Lake City.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events. He was part of the “chain gang crew” for Bonneville and then Hillcrest High School football games for over 30 years.
Survivors include his wife and best friend, Nancy Hillyard, Idaho Falls; his children: Teri (Ron) Ehresman of Idaho Falls; Loni (Tim) Gibb of West Lafayette, IN; Scott (Shauna) Hillyard of Nibley, UT; Mark (Glenette) Hillyard of Idaho Falls; and Travis (Teea) Hillyard of Magna, UT; a brother, Lyle (Alice) Hillyard of Logan, UT; and a sister, Joyce (Russell) Madsen of Provo, UT; 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Hillyard, his parents and two brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at the Ammon LDS West Stake Chapel, 2055 Coronado Street, with Bishop Kipp Manwaring officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood East Side Chapel, 963 S. Ammon Road, and for one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 151 East 5600 South, #210, Murray, UT, 84107.
Burial will be in the Smithfield Cemetery in Smithfield, Utah, where Military Rites will be performed by the Smithfield Veterans Team. Services are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
