MONTE A. MASON
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Monte A. Mason, 86, of Idaho Falls, died July 16,
2003, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born September 15, 1916, at Poplar, Idaho, to Joseph
Henry Mason and Eleanor Armstrong Mason. He grew up in Poplar and attended
schools in Ririe, where he graduated as Valedictorian of his class at Ririe
High School. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
He married Theresa Jennie Hawkes August 10, 1938, in the
Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where he
worked for the U. S. Postal Service for over 42 years. He retired as Postmaster
in Idaho Falls in 1984. Theresa passed away February 23, 1999.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints, he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Counselor in the Bishopric,
Counselor in the Stake Young Men, on the High Council of the Idaho Falls
Stake, and as Bishop of the Idaho Falls 14th Ward. He enjoyed stamp collecting,
crossword puzzles, family history research, traveling, and temple attendance.
He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing softball and basketball.
Monte loved to visit with people and had a very cheery personality and a
strong handshake.

16 Grandchildren & 17 Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harlan, Byron, Basil, Jack, and
a sister, Vivienne.
Funeral Services will be at 12 Noon Monday, July 21, 2003,
at the Idaho Falls LDS 14th Ward, 651 Gladstone, with Bishop Mel Georgeson
officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and on Monday from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m.
at the church.
Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park under the direction
of Wood Funeral Home.
