Monte Ray Field, 74, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 2, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Monte was born July 22, 1936, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Parley R. Field and Melba Southwick Field. He grew up in Ammon, Idaho, and graduated from Bonneville High School. He then went on to earn his Associates Degree at Utah State University. After serving in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict, Monte moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where he worked as a mechanic and opened Field Motors. After nearly twenty years of combining his mechanical talent and cowboy skills in Jackson Hole, Monte moved to Idaho, where he worked at Cole Chevrolet in Pocatello and then as a Range Rider on the "Big Onion" for the Marsh Valley Cattle Association near his home in McCammon. Monte spent the past few winters in Quartzite, Arizona. "Mont" was old school in his values and believed in honesty, friendship, and, above all, family. He enjoyed spending time outdoors with his horses, fishing, hunting and chasing cows. He lived the Cowboy Way and pack trips into the Gros Ventre in Jackson Hole and his many summers spent on the Big Onion in Idaho were some of his and his family's most treasured memories. Monte remained close to all the children in his life and considered them all to be family. He is survived by his daughters, Celeste Harvey of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Charmaine Reynolds of American Falls, Idaho, Rani Tudor of Moses Lake, Washington, Pamela Francesconi of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Connie Hobson of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, and Leslie Phillips of Twin Falls, Idaho; sons, Adam Dial of Richmond, Missouri, and Keith Fridley of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sisters, Sonia Landon of Rigby, Idaho, Kathleen Hart of Portland, Oregon, and Kayleen Goodall of Sandy, Utah, plus sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roy Joe Field. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday July 23, 2011, at the Big Onion Cow Camp in Marsh Valley near McCammon, Idaho. In accordance with his wishes this will not be a formal service but a chance to share memories.
