Monroe Tyler

Monroe Cheney Tyler, 78, our loving husband, father, and Grandpa Ogre was reunited with his parents, three brothers and a grandson on January 22, 2019. Monroe was born December 23, 1940, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He grew up an Idaho farm boy with four brothers and one sister: milking cows, planting potatoes, and harvesting hay. A particularly successful crop of potatoes planted, tended, and harvested by him for a school project earned him the title of The Potato Kid. After he had grown a foot or two, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Southern States Mission. On his return, he earned a Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering from Brigham Young University where he met Sherilyn Ruth Green. He and Sherilyn married in the Salt Lake City Temple on January 31, 1966. At USC in Los Angeles, California, he earned a Master's of Science Electrical Engineering Computer Design. Sherilyn and Monroe lived in Sandy, Utah most of their lives where they raised 8 children before they moved to Tucson Arizona so Monroe could work for Raytheon. After retirement they moved to SunRiver St. George. During his life, Monroe worked on underwater tracking systems for Edo and missile guidance systems for Raytheon. He loved personal computers and helped develop some of the world’s first personal computers as a partner in Sphere Corporation. He was also fond of camping with his family, hiking with his brothers and children, and playing computer games with his grandchildren. Monroe is survived by his wife, Sherilyn; 8 children: Bruce (Lew), Rebecca (David), Magen (Carl), Selar (Wendy), Laura Ann (Bryce), Nathan (Maida), Jonathan (Tracy), and Crystal (Michael); 31 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
