MILFORD 'MIFF' SWEAT IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Milford Sweat "Miff", 86 of Carey, died May 27, 2007 at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls from complications of age. He was born November 28, 1921, to David and Cora Azelia Moore Sweat in Jerome. He attended schools in Jerome and graduated from Richfield High School. His father died when he was four years old and he was raised by his uncle/stepfather, Bob Sweat, of whom he always thought highly. Miff married Catherine (Katie) Loraine Edwards February 27, 1943, in Carey, Idaho. During World War II, he worked as a miner in Rio Tino, Nevada, and in new construction at Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii, rebuilding after the Japanese attack. After the war he farmed and ranched for five years, then started working construction. He joined the Ironworkers International Union and for the next 10 years moved his family thru eight states always returning to Idaho . In 1963, they bought Catherine's parents Huff Creek Ranch in Carey and farmed and raised cattle for the nextr 41 years. Miff also worked in construction at the INEL and various local projects including the Perrien and Hansen bridges. Miff was a member of the Ironworkers Local 732 in Pocatello for more than fifty years, serving as President for many of those years. Due to age and ill health and the need to be near medical facilities, Miff and Katie moved to Ammon in early 2005. Survivors include: Daughter: Bonnie Kadicki of Idaho Falls, ID Wife: Catherine "Katie" Sweat of Ammon, ID Son: M. Douglas (Darlene) Sweat of Fairbanks, AK Daughter: BarbaraL. (Randy) Murphy of Carey, ID Brother: Elden Sweat of Richfield, ID Sister: Ruth Swainston of Richfield, ID Sister: Fern Coats of Twin Falls, ID 20 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rollo, Milton and Ray; a sister, Ella, and a son, Leslie. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2007, at the Carey LDS 2nd Ward in Carey, Idaho, with Bishop Vernon Jolley officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Carey Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
