Mildred Rountree Umphlette, 88, formerly of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away July 14, 2016, at her home in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Mildred was born March 4, 1928, in Suffolk, Virginia, to George Thomas Rountree and Mattie Eugenia Rountree. She grew up and attended high school in Suffolk, Virginia. She also attended college at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.
At 19, she married William Joseph Umphlette in Suffolk, Virginia. This couple adopted two children, Jackie and Tim. Mildred and William made their home in Norfolk. Virginia.
She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Idaho Falls. Mildred was helping with vacation bible school the week of her death. While living in Norfolk she attended Ocean View Baptist Church and loved serving. She also volunteered at Lake Taylor Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Mildred enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending time with friends, cross stitching and ceramics.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Jackie (Bernie) Brown of Virginia Beach, VA, son, Timothy B. (Julie) Umphlette of Ammon, ID, 5 grandchildren; Donnie, William, Chris, Arlene and Alex, and one great grandson, Sebastian.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Hurdle "Turtle" Rountree and G.T. Rountree and her husband, William Joseph Umphlette.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church, 785 1st Street, with Pastor Matt McGurkin officiating. The family will visit with friends from Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.
