Mildred Marie Pike, 91, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 16, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society Idaho Falls Village.
Mildred was born December 27, 1924, in Horton, Kansas, to Richard Van Allen and Maude Marie Huffman Allen. She spent her early years in Horton, then moved to Pasadena, California, where she attended Pasadena High School. She left High School to work as a riveter building airplanes for the war effort. She also worked as a telephone operator, for an insurance company, at a spud house, and sold organic plants from her own greenhouse.
On August 11, 1947, she married Aldie Herbert Pike in Hiawatha, Kansas. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1955. They raised their six children, Diana, Aldie, Jr., Mitzie, Keri, Richard, and Vicky. They spent the early years of their marriage in Kansas, then moved to Idaho in 1953 and eventually made their home in Basalt. Mildred was a wife, mother, and homemaker. Aldie passed away October 8, 2012.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as Primary President, visiting teacher, Primary teacher, gardening director, and choir director. She enjoyed canning, gardening, fishing, painting, pottery, reading, and cooking.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Diana (Randy) Keppner of Basalt, ID; son, Aldie (Cherie) Pike Jr. of West Fork, AR; daughter, Mildred (Paul) Stone of Pahrump, NV; daughter, Keri Allen of Firth, ID; son, Richard Pike of Basalt, ID; daughter, Vicky (Jason) Hilling of Pahrump, NV; sister, JoAnn Moore of Kansas; 34 grandchildren and 111 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, William "Bill" Allen, Gary Allen, Larry Allen, Richard "Sonny" Allen, Anthony "Butch" Allen, Dennis "Denny" Allen, and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Keppner and Sandy Street.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Basalt LDS church, with Bishop Drew Park officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, and 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.
