MILDRED HASTINGS Click here to view Mildred's Video Tribute IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Mildred Louise Brock Hastings, 101, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 6, 2010 at her home. She was under the care of her daughter and Aspen Home Health and Hospice. She was born September 12, 1908 in Madison, Nebraska to Jacob Brock and Anna Voght Brock. She grew up and attended school at Darby Elementary, Driggs and Victor High Schools in Teton Valley. Mildred learned typing and shorthand in high school and worked at the Driggs courthouse for several years, eventually becoming deputy assistant county auditor. On November 13, 1933, she married Lester Lyle Hastings in Rexburg, Idaho. They lived in Highgrove and Riverside California for 10 years where Karen and Gary were born. The family returned to Idaho where Lester and Mildred farmed in the Idaho Falls area, and in Roberts, Idaho for 18 years where son, David was born. She was a devoted mother and a homemaker and sincerely loved by family and friends. After she and Lester retired in 1966 they moved to her present home in Idaho Falls. Lester preceded her in death on November 20, 1984. Mildred was an active member of the Roberts Community Church where at various times she was secretary of the Church Women’s Missionary Society , treasurer of the Sunday School and a Cub Scout Den Leader. She and Lester formed many lasting friendships through this church and the Robert’s Community Bridge Club. She enjoyed cooking and gardening, knitting and crocheting and traveling with Lester and especially spending time with her grandchildren, Candance Hastings Moehnke, Brock G. Hastings, Matthew Tyler Hastings, and Aaron Lyle Hastings and great grandchildren, Cody Wayne Nolan, Taylor Lynn Nolan, Ashley Nicole Hastings and Taylor Morgan Scharer. Survivors include: Daughter: Karen Mae Hastings Carleton, Idaho Falls, ID Son: David Lyle Hastings, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter in law: Sue Ritter Hastings, Idaho Falls, ID 4 Grandchildren & 4 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son, Gary Duane Hastings, son in law, James Hamilton Carleton, grandson in law, Bruce Wayne Moehnke, a sister, Doris Peacock Bowles and and a brother, Alois “Whitey” Brock. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Idaho Youth Ranch or the Roberts Community Church.
