Miguel V. Silvas, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 24, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was under the care of Encompass Hospice.
Miguel was born May 8, 1936, in Sabinal, Texas, to Gilberto Silvas and Amada Vasquez Silvas.
On June 3, 1961, he married Maria Martinez in Littlefield, Texas. They had eight children, Maria Ester, Miguel Jr., Andres, Javier Lionel, David Angel, Carlos Oscar, Jose Luis and Estevan Fabian. Miguel and Maria lived in Texas and Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Miguel worked in agriculture and as a mechanic. He grew up in Texas and moved to Idaho in 1975. He retired in 2009 and moved back to Texas, returning to Idaho in 2017.
He played baseball in his younger years and enjoyed fishing, camping, and watching wrestling. He was a collector of toy cars and knives.
Miguel is survived by his loving wife, Maria Silvas of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Maria Ester (Rogelio) Torres of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Miguel (Wendi) Silvas, Jr. of Littlefield, TX; son, Andres Silvas of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Javier Lionel of Idaho Falls, ID; son, David Angel (Leonor) Silvas of Kalamazoo, MI; son, Carlos Oscar (Leticia) Silvas of Phoenix, AZ; son, Jose Luis (Korina) Silvas of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Estevan Fabian (Brittany) Silvas of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Jesusita (Daniel) Ramos of Littlefield, TX; sister, Yolanda (Fausto) Hernandez of Lewisville, TX; brother, Guadalupe (Janie) Silvas of Littleville, TX; sister, Guadalupe Silvas of Lockhart, TX; brother, Ruben (Janie) Silva of Lubbock, TX; 36 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilberto and Amada Silvas; brothers, Juan Dolores Silva, Ernesto Silvas, and Arturo Silvas; sisters, Gloria Perez, Juana Hernandez, Julia Galan and Enrique Silvas.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, corner of 9th and Lee in Idaho Falls, with Father Raul Covarrubias, officiating. A rosary will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends following the rosary from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery.
