Michael Eugene "Mike" McGuire, 67, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 26, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family. Michael loved his family with all his heart. He was a wonderful example of hard work, honesty, and unconditional love. Born July 27, 1949, in Twin Falls, Idaho to Harold Eugene and Fern Beach McGuire, Mike learned hard work, honesty, and a love for cars from his father, a local policeman and mechanic. As a young man, Mike would often help his father make repairs on old trucks and cars. This hobby followed Mike his entire life, teaching his children and grandchildren the lessons taught by his father. Michael, nicknamed "Mac" by his peers, attended schools in the Twin Falls area and graduated from Buhl High School, where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Diana Wonenberg. Mike and Carolyn shared a homeroom class, where he loved to compliment her perfume. They were married March 28, 1968, in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Mike was a true patriot and that was evident in the years of the Vietnam War. He wanted to fight for the freedom of others, it’d been his dream since he was a young boy. He joined the U.S. National Guard in 1968 and served until 1976. He enjoyed serving and reminisced about the days when he got to play a part in protecting his country. Mike and Carolyn had eight children, Tracy, Mike, Dale, Micha, Christian, Resa, Megan, and Colben. He is remembered as a father having unconditional love, always reminding his children how much he loved them. He enjoyed golfing, coaching sports, and spending time with his family. Mike coached his children in baseball and football and loved attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events. Mike was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in scouting, as a Sunday school teacher, as a Primary teacher (and student), in stake missionary work and held the Melchizedek Priesthood. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Carolyn McGuire of Idaho Falls; four daughters, Tracy (Cole) Williams, Micha (Nick) Styhl, Resa (Jeremy) Simons, and Megan (Joldy) McGuire-Watts, all of Idaho Falls; three sons, Dale (Stephanie) Ellsworth of Long Beach, WA; Christian (Josey) McGuire and Colben (Cierra) McGuire, both of Idaho Falls; two sisters, Julie (Butch) Tadlock of Twin Falls, ID; and Susan (Dennis) Schorzman of Buhl, ID; and 26 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Arron McGuire; his parents, Harold and Fern McGuire; and a brother, Marvin McGuire. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016, at the Summit Park LDS Church, 3102 Pinnacle Drive, with Bishop Derek Van Orden of the Lincoln 8th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Wood East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and from 12-12:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Iona Cemetery with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
