Michael Kerry Johnston, 65, lovingly known as Mike, passed away July 12, 2024, at Intermountain Medical Center in Utah, after complications from a heart attack.
He was born on March 28, 1959, to the late Jack Johnston and Jeannie Sorensen in Pocatello, Idaho. Mike grew up in Soda Springs, Idaho, alongside his three younger siblings, Kellie (Mike) Undesser of Casa Grande, AZ; David (Lisa) Johnston of Idaho Falls, ID; and Leslie Johnston of Pocatello, ID.
Mike married the late Carla Johnston on June 22, 1987, in Pocatello, Idaho. Together they had two boys, Marshall Johnston (36) and Justin Johnston (34). We find comfort in knowing our dad’s legacy will live on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
Mike was a perpetual lover of all types of music. From his favorite group The Beatles to Taylor Swift, and everything in between. He felt a deep connection to music and used that as, not only an emotional outlet, but a way to connect with his friends and family. Along with the simplest of life’s pleasures, like being outdoors, sitting around a campfire, attending concerts, or hosting a family dinner, Mike cherished the time he got to spend with his brother David roasting coffee beans.
His family was his pride and joy, but his greatest joy was being Gramps to his granddaughter Lola (10). His devotion to that role was something special. He always made time for her and showed up any time there was a school function or sporting event. He was her biggest fan.
He was always a person you could count on and didn't hesitate to help anyone in need. He touched the lives of many people and our dad will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Elks Lodge of Idaho Falls, 640 E. Elva Street, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
