Michael L. Gneiting passed away at home on Thursday, February 1, 2018, in Idaho Falls. He was 68 years old. Michael was born January 14, 1950, in Rigby, Idaho, to Leo and Margaret Gneiting. He married Shirley Kay Moss on September 9, 1971, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Michael graduated from Bonneville High School in 1968 and attended both Ricks College and BYU. He worked for a brief time in California before moving back to Idaho Falls to work for Boise Cascade for 42 years and retired in 2015. Michael played fast pitch softball for over 20 years. In 2004, he was inducted into the Idaho Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame. He had an event-filled childhood growing up in Lewisville. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, hiking to high mountain lakes, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was an excellent husband, father, and grandfather. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a home teacher, Young Men’s leader, Counselor in the Bishopric, High Priest, and Scoutmaster. He had a passion for scouting and helping young men. In 1999, he received the Silver Beaver Award. He loved the temple and attended every week for over 20 years. Michael is survived by his wife, Shirley Kay Moss Gneiting; children, Mark Gneiting (Melinda) of Gardnerville, NV; Ryan Gneiting (Jill) of Bettendorf, IA; Doug Gneiting (Michelle) of Highland, UT; Brent Gneiting (Gator) of Shelley, ID; Todd Gneiting (Danielle) of Saratoga Springs, UT; Richard Gneiting (Laura) of Idaho Falls, ID; and 22 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Gneiting, who died at birth. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the LDS Humanitarian Aid Fund at https://www.ldsphilanthropies.org/humanitarian-services/funds/humanitarian-general-fund Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at the Idaho Falls LDS St. Leon Ward, 6925 North 15th East. The family will visit with friends Monday from 6-7:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Grant-Central Cemetery.
