Michael Cerny

Michael Anthony Cerny, 70, of Idaho Falls, passed away on March 3, 2024, at Lincoln Court Assisted and Senior Living.

Michael was born November 27, 1953, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Julia Driggers and George Cerny, both of whom worked for the US Navy. On July 21, 1979, Michael married Stephanie Yates VanDenburg in Gainesville, Florida. They made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, for the past 15 years. Michael moved his family to Idaho to work for Idaho National Laboratories as a VP of Radiological Engineering.

Michael had a long career in the Nuclear Power industry that led his family to pack up and move all over the country 17 times. They called themselves “road warriors” and took great pride in their resilience to adapt to new circumstances. His favorite song and mantra was “Roll with the Changes” by REO Speedwagon. He was a smart, kind man who was beloved by his friends and family.

His beloved wife, Stephanie, passed away on May 29, 2017. He is survived by his son, George Cerny of San Jose, CA; grandson, Jackson Cerny of San Jose, CA; daughter, Ashley Cerny of Idaho Falls, ID; his daughter in-law, Adrianna Cerny; and his sister, Patty O’Leary of Sun Lakes, AZ.

A celebration of his life will be held for family and friends from 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road.
