MERLE J. QUIGLEY
AMMON, ID -- Merle J. Quigley, 66, of Ammon, died July
10, 2004, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of a massive heart
attack during his recovery from joint replacement surgery. He underwent
the surgery with the hope of being able to fulfill a full-time mission
for his church. The Lord has called him on that mission.
Merle was born September 4, 1937, in Lava Hot Springs,
Idaho, to Howard Henry Quigley and Eldia Fern Wood Quigley (later Baldwin).
He grew up in the Pocatello area and attended public schools there. He
also attended Idaho State University and Utah State University, from which
he obtained a Masters' Degree.
Merle married his eternal companion, Barbara Jeanne Brucks,
June 20, 1958, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived briefly in Pocatello,
then moved to Blackfoot for 8 years and lived in Oregon for a year before
moving to Idaho Falls 38 years ago. He was a farmer, school teacher, and
librarian. Merle always loved children and teaching them became his life’s
work. He was also beloved by them, especially his son, grandchildren,
nieces and nephews. After becoming wheelchair bound their visits were
even more meaningful to him.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints. He loved to serve his ward family and did so in
many capacities over the years, including the Elders and High Priest Quorum
Presidencies, as Ward Clerk, and in Scouting. Merle loved scouting and
was honored with several awards for his service and dedication. He enjoyed
wood working, photography, auto rebuilding, reading, bike riding, painting,
metal working, and welding.
