Melvin Dean Nichols, 72, of Idaho Falls, passed away on April 28, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born October 15, 1941, in Gary, Indiana to John Milford Nichols and Beulah Call Nichols. The family moved to Pocatello and then to Idaho Falls where he finished his schooling at Idaho Falls High School. Melvin served 22 years and retired from the Idaho National Guard.
On January 14, 1966, he was married to Laraine Fullmer. They were later divorced. On March 7, 1975, he married JoAn Marie Smith Simmons in Idaho Falls. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on February 19, 1978. For much of his life, he enjoyed farming, driving truck and working as an RV Technician Manager.
Melvin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings as a Melchizedek priesthood holder including Scoutmaster, Counselor in the Bishopric, Family History Consultant, and Temple Endowment Missionary. Melvin loved the outdoors and loved spending time with his family. He was an avid hunter and camper. He enjoyed snowmobiling, mechanicing, photography, and doing family history. He was always really good at fixing things around the home.

Sister: Carna (Kurt) Anderson, Queen Creek, AZ
19 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Scott Nichols.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Idaho Falls LDS Coltman 2nd Ward (12448 N. 5th East) with Bishop Dennis Love officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side (963 S. Ammon) and on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park with military rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
