Melba Jean Stoneberg Landon, 85, of Idaho Falls, peacefully passed away June 13th, 2018 at Morning Star Senior Living.
Melba was born July 10th, 1932, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Carl Robert Stoneberg and Violet Adele Tofte Stoneberg. She lived in New Sweden until she was nine years old and then moved to Osgood, a community that she truly loved and where she lived the rest of her days. She attended Osgood Elementary and graduated from Idaho Falls High School.
She married Irvin Gene Landon on December 21, 1949, in the Idaho Falls LDS temple and they had 60 wonderful years together. She worked alongside her husband Irvin on their farm until his retirement.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Melba served in many callings including Stake Relief Society President. She loved to serve and was always there to lend a hand or drop off a pie or a meal. She was a 4-H leader and taught her skills and shared her talents with countless youth.
She and Irvin served as missionaries in the Temple visitors center and also as Temple officiators in the Idaho Falls Temple for 10 years.
She loved homemaking, gardening and canning, but her greatest joy was taking care of her family. She always made raising an eternal family a priority. Melba enjoyed traveling with Irvin to her children living further away and visiting her grandchildren. She was a great seamstress and spent many hours with Irvin, her sister Lillian and her husband Keith making quilts and gave them as gifts to many friends and family.
In addition to raising their six children, she and Irvin opened their home and helped raise two Native American daughters Jean Harmon and Katrina Begay. They also had three nephews, Terry and Harold Beckstead and Craig Landon, that lived in their home during the summer months to help work on the farm.
Survivors include her older sister Nancy Reed living in Lake Oswego, Oregon; and an older brother Robert (Connie) Stoneberg living in Osgood, Idaho. She is also survived by her children, son Stan (Debbie) Landon of Idaho Falls; daughters, Karen (Gary) Mugleston of Yakima Washington; Cindy (Dan) Morris of Ashland, Oregon; son, Barry (Sue) Landon of Idaho Falls; daughters, Susan (John) Griffin of Idaho Falls; Adele (Travis) Dye of Boise, Idaho; 30 grandchildren, and 67 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Gene Landon, her parents, Carl and Violet Stoneberg, a sister, Lillian Drollinger, a grandson, Bryce Irvin Mugleston, and a great granddaughter, Zoey Simmons of Vernal Utah.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday June 18, 2018, at the Idaho Falls LDS Osgood Ward (7940 N. 35th W.) with Bishop Jeff Danielson officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 6-7:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, (273 N. Ridge Ave.) and Monday from 9:00-9:45 a.m. June 18th at the Osgood Ward building.
