MELBA O. CRAPO
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Melba Christa Olsen Crapo, 91, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 10, 2002, at her daughter's home.
She was born July 29, 1910 to Niels Albert Olsen and Hannah Marie Sandberg Olsen in Richfield, Utah. She grew up and attended schools in Kimberly, Idaho. She graduated from the University of Utah and did graduate work at the University of Idaho.
She married George Lavelle Crapo September 29, 1938 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He preceded her in death October 22, 1987.
She taught junior high and high school in Kimberly and St. Anthony, Idaho. Early in her marriage, she worked as a demonstrator for Utah Power, as a Home University of Idaho Extension Division, and as a Supervisor for the Idaho State Vocational Department.
In 1945, along with Helen Aupperle and Norma Barnes, she started the ABC Gift Shop, a clothing and toy store that she owned and managed for the next forty years.
A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she served in many callings, including Primary President, President of the MIA, and Relief Society President.
She was an avid reader and excellent cook, but her favorite activity was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are:Daughter-in-law: Valeria (Son, Terry L. deceased) Crapo, Idaho Falls, IDSon: Robert Olsen (Susan) Crapo, Salt Lake City, UTSon: James Douglas (Kathleen) Crapo, Cherry Hills Village, CODaughter: Phyllis Ane (Jerold) Olefsky, Solana Beach, CADaughter: Christine Marie (John) Hatch, Idaho Falls, IDSon: Michael Dean (Susan) Crapo, Idaho Falls, IDSister: Nina Corrinee Lowe, Salt Lake City, UTSister: Betty Jenel Carr, Idaho Falls, ID26 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Terry, and granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Crapo Hawes.
Funeral Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS Eagle Rock Stake Building, 2020 South Charlotte, with Bishop John Blacker of the Idaho Falls LDS 3rd Ward officiating.
The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls.
