Melanie Mortensen Barber

Melanie Mortensen Barber, 59, of Rexburg, Idaho, passed away September 25, 2022, at her home from Alpha One. She was under the care of Eden Hospice. Melanie was born July 6, 1963, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Brent Dellis Barber and Sharon H. Mortensen Barber. She grew up in Idaho Falls. She attended Riverside and Emerson Elementary schools, Bonneville Jr. High, Sugar Salem High School and graduated from Bonneville High School. She also attended Ricks College. Melanie worked as an operating engineer in construction for over 35 years. She retired in 2014 after discovering she had a broken neck. She was a Viking Warrior and was always down for an adventure. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an amazing catcher for women's fast pitch soft ball. She enjoyed fishing, rock hounding, traveling, Great Danes and Rottweiler's, and her many cats. She was a collector of her many hobbies. Melanie is survived by her mother, Sharon H. Summers of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Brent Buck (Heidi) Barber of Ammon, ID; brother, Todd Mortensen (Cindy) Barber of Menan, ID; sister, Shayna (Kellen) Harrison of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Madeline Mortensen Worrell of Idaho Falls, ID; and many nieces and nephews, whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her father, Brent Dellis Barber; step-father, Boyd Summers; brother-in-law, Parrish L. Worrell; sister-in-law, Theresa Barber; grandparents, Vernon and Mildred Mortensen; and grandparents, Dellis & Isabel Barber. A big thank you to her nephew Joshua Worrell for the great and loving care he gave to Melanie. Without him by her side she would have left this earth much sooner. Thank you to Bonnie Lee, her Alpha One Coordinator, her care providers: Dr. Boyd Southwick, Dr. Jan Garland, Dr. Dickinson, and the Idaho Falls Infusion Center, her nurses Heather and Sam from Eden Home Health.
