May Joan Shumaker, 88, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 18, 2026, at Teton Healthcare of Cascadia.
May was born July 6, 1938, in Russell, Kansas, to William Henry Plunkett and Eva May Hensey Plunkett. She grew up and attended schools in Kansas, but moved to Greybull, Wyoming, as a child.
On October 20, 1954, she married Richard Allen Shumaker in Phoenix, Arizona. May and Richard made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where May worked as an accountant.
She was a member of The Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed working with the teen youth group at church and trips to Yellowstone and Jackson Hole. She loved flying in her husband’s airplane. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
May is survived by her niece, Linda Harrold; great-niece, Lynne Scrogins; and great-great nephews, Christian and Joshua Scrogins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and six siblings.
No public services are planned. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery next to her husband.
