Annie Maurine Hanks Steele, 93, long-time resident of Iona, passed away August 31, 2022, in Tempe, Arizona.
Maurine was born on May 6, 1929, in Tetonia, Idaho. She was the oldest of four children born to Vida D. (Curtis) and Theodore V. Hanks.
Maurine graduated from Idaho Falls High School and attended what was then Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics.
Maurine married James B. Steele of Iona in the Idaho Falls Temple in June 1951. They raised their seven children in Iona where she enjoyed family, friends, and genealogy. She was active for many years in the Bonneville Art Association and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP). She loved learning and participated in Friends for Learning. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Maurine loved and served others throughout her life, including serving two missions with her husband. In 2005, she moved to Ammon where she continued to participate in DUP and enlarging her circle of friends. In 2019, she moved to Mesa, Arizona.
Maurine was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her daughter, Kathryn; and her brother, Doyle. She is survived by her sister, Vida Weatherston of Rexburg, ID; brother, Lynn Hanks of Salt Lake City, UT; her sons, Dale (Sharon) of Tempe, AZ, Paul (Julie) of Iona, ID, Keith (Janette) of West Haven, UT, Steven of Mesa, AZ; her daughters, Vi Ann Foster (Paul) of Brunswick, GA and Karen Clayson (Jesse) of Ridgecrest, CA; 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 4030 John Adams Parkway. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
