Mary Hancock Young passed away June 14, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Village in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Mother was born October 28, 1927, in North Ogden, Utah, to Victor C. and Edith Buck Hancock. She was the fifth child of eight children. She was raised in Ogden, Utah, attended Mound Fort Jr High and graduated from Ogden High School. Mary met her sweetheart, Eldon Myron Young, at Como Hot Springs in Morgan, Utah. They were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on November 7, 1945. They raised three sons and three daughters. They had been married sixty years when Eldon passed away in 2005. Mary and Eldon moved their family from Ogden to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 1954. They also lived in Garfield, Rigby, Ucon and Taylor. She attended beauty school, worked as a clerk / typist at the 2nd Street War Department Supply Depot and Sears for 22 years. Mary was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many capacities. Mother had a beautiful singing voice. She sang in a double trio with her sister, Thelma, in her youth, and various church groups throughout her life. Her other talents included sewing, crocheting, cooking, canning, oil painting, and a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed many camping trips with family and friends, spending time at the cabin and loved entertaining her grandchildren. She was a very warm, loving and kind mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed. Survivors include her six children, Kent E. (Veda) Young, Ammon, ID, Steven J. (Yvonne) Young, Taylor, ID, Lorraine M. (Gene) Dressen, Coltman, ID, Linda L. (Craig) Blackburn, Rigby, ID, Loretta (Bill) Scouten, Rigby, ID, and Paul D. (Denice) Young, Idaho Falls, ID; three brothers, Norman, Harlen and Bruce Hancock; a sister, Thelma Messerly; 25 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldon; three brothers, Clifton, Dean and Dwain Hancock; a daughter-in-law, Monta M. Young, and a great-granddaughter, Paige Antrim. A sincere and heartfelt thank-you to all that have cared for and comforted our Mother. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, Idaho Falls, with President William “Bill” Follet of the Rigby South Stake officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., with both visitations at Wood East Side. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
