Mary Stanger

Mary Elizabeth Eldredge Stanger, 95, formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away June 24, 2016, at her home in Blackfoot, Idaho. She was under the care of Encompass Hospice.

Mary was born May 21,1921, in Carey, Idaho. She was the fourth of 12 children; eight brothers and three sisters, born to Forest Howard Eldredge and Vivian Elizabeth Cross. She grew up and attended school in Carey and graduated from high school there.

On June 10,1939, she married Thomas Laughlin Stanger in Hailey, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized May 16,1951, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They moved to Blackfoot for a short time, and then made their home in Idaho Falls. Mary moved back to Blackfoot in 2007.

Seven children blessed their lives; Patricia Ann Daniel of Des Moines, WA, Bonnie Kay (Clair) Killian, of Idaho Falls, Lloyd Thomas (Linda) Stanger of Idaho Falls, Raymond Wayne (Roxann) Stanger of Rigby, Idaho, Calvin Dean (Darla) Stanger of Sunnyvale, CA, Janice Lee (Richard) Stephens of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Karen L'nette (Ray) Hannah of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Mary was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mary perfected the art of homemaking. She was a self taught accomplished seamstress and quilter. She also was accomplished at crocheting and knitting. Mary has been an active supporter of the LDS humanitarian efforts. She reached her goal of knitting 500 pair of baby booties to donate to newborns and most recently newborn caps. She also donated several hand-made quilts to Primary Children's Hospital. Mary enjoyed a lifetime of gardening and canning to provide for her family and share with acquaintances the fruits of her labor. Other hobbies were paint-by-number pictures from Germany and pixel mosaics from Holland.

Mary is survived by six children, Patricia, Lloyd, Raymond, Calvin, Janice and Karen. She is also survived by three remaining siblings; brothers Burl Thomas (Betty) Eldredge of Wendell, ID, Jerold Allen (Ann) Eldredge of Jerome, ID and sister Julia Margaret (Karl) Ward of Jerome, ID.

She has 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 2 great, great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Laughlin Stanger, daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Kay (R. Clair) Killian; parents; brothers, Gail, Clifton, Willard, Omar, James and Keith; sisters, Esther and Jeannine.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, with Blackfoot 7th Ward Bishop Daniel Hale officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mary asked that donations be made to Primary Children's Hospital.
