Mary Catherine Rapp Schwieder, 95, of Iona, passed away June 15, 2025, at her home. She was under the care of her loving family and Symbii Home Health & Hospice.
Mary was born August 11, 1929, in Rigby, Idaho, to Ezra Elmer Rapp and Emma Sophia Taylor Rapp. She grew up and attended school in Rigby and then a one room school at Poplar. Her family later moved to Idaho Falls where she continued her education and graduated from Idaho Falls High School.
On November 29, 1950, she married Harold Gale Schwieder in the Idaho Falls Temple. Harold and Mary made their home in Iona, Idaho, and summers in Dehlin, Idaho, where they owned and operated a farm and ranch. She spent many days cooking for the men as they worked on the farm. Her greatest desire was to care for her home, husband, and children.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout the years. She served a mission with her husband at Cove Fort in Utah. She had many hobbies, and her hands were always busy sewing, quilting, crocheting, cooking, and various other crafts. Her home was decorated with her handiworks and she shared her talents with her family and friends. In their later years, she spent the winters in St. George, Utah, with Harold. They enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and spending time with many friends.
Mary is survived by her four children: son, David (Gwen) Schwieder of Iona, ID; son, Paul (Alesia) Schwieder of Iona, ID; daughter, Janet (Michael) Morton of Tremonton, UT; daughter, Ann (Douglas) Rockwood of Iona, ID; 20 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Schwieder; parents, Ezra and Emma Sophia Rapp; brothers, Richard, Baby Rapp, Delmar, Errol, Mark, and Bobby Rapp; sisters, Donna Freeman, Nello Von Hill, Hallie Rapp, and Sally Rapp; granddaughter, Heather Jane Morton; great granddaughter, Kaydrie Diane Van Dyke; and great grandsons, Davis Brian Schwieder and Lael S. Morton.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the kindness and tender care shown to Mary by the staff at Promontory Point.
