Mary Falk Mendez, 91, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 30, 2016, at her home of natural causes. She was under the care of her family and Hospice of Eastern Idaho. Mary was born October 18, 1924, in Namiquipa, Chihuahua, Mexico, to David Falk and Agatha Unrau Falk. She grew up and attended schools in Canada and Mexico. She attended Manitoba Catholic School and earned her license as a Licensed Practical Nurse. After her nurses training she went on a Christian mission to Mexico, where she met her husband-to-be. On May 20, 1954, she married Gabriel Mendez in Chihuahua, Mexico. To this union were born five children, Elizabeth, Rhoda, Gabriel, Unise, and Debra. Mary and Gabriel lived in Rupert, Idaho, from 1961 to 1974, then went to Washington and California before coming to Idaho Falls in 1994, where they have since resided. On top of being a wife, mother, and homemaker, Mary worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years at Minidoka County Hospital. She was a member of the Apostolic Assembly Church of Idaho Falls. She enjoyed gardening, baking homemade bread, and sharing the Word of God with people. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Gabriel Mendez of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Elizabeth Dádiva Resendez of Idaho Falls, ID, daughter, Marilyn Rhoda Mendez of Stockton, CA, son, Gabriel Darius Mendez of San Francisco, CA, daughter, Unise Aurelia Mendez of Henderson, NV, daughter, Deborah Lynn Brand of Claremore, OK, sister, Agatha Nickel of British Columbia, Canada, 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a half-brother, David Falk, brother-in-law, Henry Falk, two half-sisters, Justina (Peter) Redekop and Katherine Falk, a grandson, Emerson, and a great granddaughter, Annette. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Paul Resendez officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, both at Wood East Side. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
