Mary Mcninch

Mary Lizzy Gordon McNinch, 91, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 23, 2012, at Good Samaritan Society, Idaho Falls Village. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice. Mary was born February 14, 1921, in Menan, Idaho, to Maurice Rupert Gordon and Mabel Ann Whitman Gordon. Her brothers, Charles James and Earl DeWayne, welcomed her to their home in Lima, Montana. Twenty years later, a sister, Ellen Mae, was born. Mary grew up and attended schools in Lima, and graduated from Lima High School. She also attended West Montana College in Dillon. On February 28, 1943, she married Joseph Wilson McNinch in Lima, Montana. This is where they made their home for several years. Their first son, Melvin, was born during this time, on September 18, 1949, in Dillon, Montana. About five years later they moved to Clearfield, Utah, to live with Mary’s parents. Wilson worked at Hill Air Force Base and Mary took in ironing to help with finances. During this time, another son, Fredrick Harold, was born, on August 2, 1957, in Ogden, Utah. Mary was a wife, homemaker, mother, and also worked as a nurses aide and cook. They took many trips to Lima to visit Grandpa and Grandma McNinch. Wilson’s health started to fail and he became unable to do things he liked to do. He died June 22, 1967, in Ogden, Utah, and Mary and the boys spent a lot of time with Mary’s parents. They eventually returned to their old home in Lima, where Mary and Melvin lived until Melvin passed away January 10, 1999, in Lima. Mary later moved to Idaho, where Fred was living. She was a foster grandmother who listened to children read at an elementary school, which she loved. Mary had a sweet tooth and loved candy. She did crocheting and liked to watch TV. She and Fred had a home in Idaho Falls and she had a little poodle who kept her company while Fred was working. Her final years were spent in Good Samaritan Living Center, where she received great care. She loved playing Bingo and visiting with the other ladies. Mary was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Civil Air Patrol. Mary is survived by her son, Fred, of Idaho Falls, and a sister, Ellen (Alonzo) Zaugg of Ririe, ID, 2 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son, Melvin. Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, at the Mount Moriah Cemetery in Lima, Montana. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, Idaho Falls, before leaving for Lima.
