Mary Belle Mattoon Macki Firor, 99, of Saint Anthony, passed away October 31, 2020, at Homestead Assisted Living in St. Anthony. Mary was born February 4, 1921, in Lapwai, Idaho, to William Thomas Mattoon and Anne Belle Goldner Mattoon. She grew up and attended schools in Lapwai until 6th grade when they moved to Kendrick, Idaho. She graduated from Kendrick High School in 1939. Her father sold a cow to pay for nursing school at St. Joseph's School of Nursing, a three year program in Lewiston, Idaho. She stitched up a man, Reino Matt Macki, who she later was set up with on a blind date. Eventually they married him on April 12, 1944, in Kendrick. Reino and Mary made their home in several places. Reino passed away on Jan 8, 1966. Mary worked as a nurse for 49 years. On April 15, 1968, she married George W. Firor in. Mary and George made their home in Chewelah, Washington. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting. Mary is survived by her daughter-in-law, Gay Lee (Dennis) Macki of Rexburg, ID; daughters, Sherry (Terry) Chalmers of Chewelah, WA, Carol (Chuck) Toste of Freno, CA, Janet (Dan) Thompson of Kettle Falls, WA, Julie Lyson of Spokane, WA; 13 grandchildren and 41great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Reino Matt Macki and George W. Firor, and son, Dennis R. Macki. No local services will be held.
