Mary was born March 1, 1927, in Denison, Iowa, to Victor Elov Anderson and Prudence I. Ells Anderson. She grew up and attended schools in Denison and graduated from high school. She also attended Bethel College and Wheaton College, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Literature and a minor in Education. On October 9, 1949, she married Matthew Truman Laug in Denison, Iowa. To this union were born three sons, Steven, Jeffrey and David. Mary and Matthew moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Mary devoted herself to her family, later teaching Kindergarten for several years. She also worked for the Soil Conservation Service in Idaho Falls and retired from there. She was a member of the Alliance Covenant Church for many years and led in the Sunday School and served as a pianist and organist. Mary had many loves that filled her life besides her sons, their wives and their children. She loved to study and teach the Bible in various children’s and women’s Bible studies. She loved to read and also wrote poetry. She loved hospitality and her home was a center of many great meals and gatherings. She loved to cook and bake, in both she excelled. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, having both in her home. But she also was a keen sports fan, locally and nationally--particularly loving the Utah Jazz. Mary will be greatly missed by her husband, Matthew Laug of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Dr. Steven Alan (Irene) Laug of Vancouver, British Columbia; son, Jeffrey Scott (Sherry) Laug of Idaho Falls, ID; son, David Victor (Robin) Laug of Idaho Falls, ID; and 8 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Eugene and Joseph Anderson; and two sisters, Caroline Newman and Darlene Anderson, who died at a young age. She greatly looked forward to being reunited with them and dear friends who also preceded her into the presence of her Savior. The family would like to express their thanks to Encompass Hospice for their care and guidance through this journey, especially to Cindy Hill for her love and care. The family asks that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the Servants Anonymous Foundation through https://www.safoundation.com/donate-here/. Mary loved the work of the SA Foundation in their work with sexually exploited and trafficked women and their children.
