Mary Harris Jacobs

MARY BETH JACOBS IDAHO FALLS, ID -- In remembrance of Mary Beth Harris Jacobs, we pay tribute to a life well lived. At the age 84 years, she passed away August 19, 2006, at home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, 10 days short of her 85th birthday, of causes incident to age. Born August 29, 1921 in Henefer, Utah, to David Oscar and Rebecca Gustaveson Harris. Being raised in Burley Idaho, she graduated in 1939 from Burley High School. Married Ray Theron Jacobs September 30, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have lived in many locations, including Austin, TX, San Marcus, TX, Roswell, NM, Biloxi, MS, Twin Falls, ID, settling in Idaho Falls. In spite of her poor health, Mother gave the gift of life to seven children, Kendall (Barbara), Salem, MO; Susan Bond, Idaho Falls; Michael, Utah; Steven (deceased); Gretchen (David) Rocknak, Idaho Falls; Kirsten Wildblood, Idaho Falls; Jeffery (Janeen), Roseville, CA. She never gave up on any of us. As long as she lived, she was concerned about the welfare of others, especially her family and country, and I'm sure she still is. She was active in politics and educated many elected officials on defending the constitution. She was a noble woman and a lady who could make things happen. Beth gave generously of her time and talents in support of the U.S. Constitution. Her defense of the Constitution was waged in the face of private and public disapproval, and even danger, as long as she had strength to fight for the eternal principles of agency. She used all her talents for good. She used her wisdom to counsel and support others. Her gifts as a teacher and her gifts of logic and persuasion made a difference in the lives of many people. With her artistic talent she enjoyed painting the beauties of nature. We are missing her today, as we will always miss her, but her example of courage and endurance lives on in each of our lives. We are blessed to have known and loved her, and are eternally grateful to be part of her family. Survived and missed by her husband, six children, 22 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as by her sisters, Reah Doane of Tooele, UT, and Donna Hellewell of Salt Lake City; and brother, David Harris of North Palm Springs, CA. Predeceased by her parents; a son, Steven; and sisters, Ina Day, Ruth Freebairn, Dora Wheeler, Ella Harris, Dessie Harris; and brother, Waldo. Family Graveside Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, 21 August 2006, in Taylor Cemetery. ---------------------------------------------------- Condolences sent online: Sheila Olsen sheila10@cableone.net Dear Ray and family, My eyes are filled with tears this morning after reading of the passing of your dear wife and mother. Memories come flooding back to me of my visits with Beth, either in person or on the phone. She cared for issues bigger than herself, of good government and the Constitution. She was strong intellectually and spiritually, though -- even then years ago when many of our conversations ensued -- she wrestled with serious and painful health problems. I can only imagine the countless acts of service and compassion you each have rendered for your dear wife and mother though the years. We know she is well and happy, free from pain, in a safe place where her spirit can soar. Still the tears come, perhaps for a time that is gone when we were all in our "salad days," earnestly working together for freedom and good government. God bless you all. Ray, thank you for your years of service in good causes as well as for your family. Nothing good we do is ever wasted as we -- and those to follow -- stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before. Your and Beth's time in life has been well spent. I am grateful that our paths crossed . . . and will continue to cross, I believe, in the eternities Love, Sheila Olsen
