IDAHO FALLS, ID --
Mary (Mae) Farrow was born June 4, 1952, as Mary Chesney Robertson in Winchester, Massachusetts, to the late Edward T. Robertson and Margaret McMillan Robertson. She died in the arms of her family on May 22, 2009, after fighting cancer for 5 years.
From being orphaned as a child, to traveling all over the world as the spouse of an Air Force member, Mae never met a person she didn't want to become friends with and worked to keep her friends no matter where they lived. When she found out she had cancer, those friends and her amazing family surrounded her with their prayers and love. Her family was called upon to help with Mae and she had such loving support for whatever decisions she needed to make because of the cancer. She always said she was the luckiest person she knew. Mae fought the cancer for many years, but always said she wouldn't wish cancer on her worst enemy but she wouldn't change a thing and cancer wasn't the worst thing that ever happened to her. Mae had a motto she used after she got cancer, "I have cancer, I'm angry, unhappy and miserable…or I have cancer, I am happy. Either way I have cancer and I choose to be happy." And she always was.
Left behind is her biker husband Robert A. Farrow of Ammon, Idaho. They were married in Medford, Massachusetts on 27 November 1971. Their marriage was solemnized at the Bern Switzerland Temple on April 9, 1976. Her children, Christian (Jessica) Farrow of Wichita, Kansas; Tanya Lampley of Ruthers Glen, Virginia; Jenn (Tony) Norris of Idaho Falls and Jodie (Steve) Hinshaw of St Anthony. Grandchildren are; Harmony and Lindsey Farrow, Alexis Hinshaw, Stephen, Piper and Xandria Norris. Mae said having grandchildren was amazing and loved spending time with them. Brothers are Norman (Pat) Robertson of Raymond, New Hampshire; Jimmy (Kathy) Robertson of Medford, Massachusetts and Tommy (Debbie) Robertson of Wakefield, Massachusetts. Mae was preceded by two sons, Timothy and Benjamin, her parents, Eddie and Rita Robertson, and in-laws, Wilfred and Edna Farrow.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many positions. Mae also served as the President of the Auxiliary for the Ammon Fire Department for nine years. After being diagnosed with cancer, Mae became a counselor at Camp Magical Moments Cancer Camp for Kids in Swan Valley. When she called to ask about becoming a counselor, she asked the director, Ann Walsh, about the notice in the paper that mentioned the children needed to be out of chemo for a year to apply that year. Mae asked Ann if that went for counselors also. Ann said, "How long have you been out of chemo?" Mae said, "As of this Friday…a week!" Fortunately, it didn't count for counselors and Mae went on to have many years being constantly amazed at the courage of the children with cancer that she came across.
If you really knew Mae, you'd know how much she hated flowers and as such, is asking that you donate instead to Camp Magical Moments, PO Box 12, Swan Valley, Idaho 83449.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Ammon 8th Ward, 2055 S. Ammon Rd., with Bishop Alan Lundeen officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Rd., and on Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. She will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington Virginia.
One last thing…Mae wrote this obituary and wants everyone to know…GO RED SOX!!!!

Bob and family, I am truly saddened to hear of the loss of Mae. Anytime I spent with her was fun and she was so much of a thrill to be around. I especially enjoyed hearing her stories of Bob from his younger days. I also enjoyed the little flirty wink she would give me from time to time when Bob was around so she could hassle him. Bob, you were a good friend and I have truly missed you over the years. I am sorry that my initial contact with you after so many years has to be over such a sad occasion. I love you dearly my friend.
My Deepest Condolences,
Price

I first met Mae about a year ago in the chemo room at Dr. Schull's office. I too am battling ovarian cancer and her smiling face and words of assurance, "been there and done that", put me at ease right away. I know that she loved life, family and friends and was also surrounded by them all. My heart is sad, but I know that even in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior she is still smiling down and telling us all that all is well. I will miss her dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I think maybe we have the hard part of trying to carry on without the presence of our dear mom, grandma and above all to me friend.

I am so sorry to hear of Mae's passing. She was such an inspiration to me, and in spite of what she was dealing with, provided me with cheer and encouragement when I needed it most, and never trivialized any problem I had, medical or otherwise. She was a wonderful lady, and I will miss her immensely!

I met Mae through a group we were in, Texas Tower Veterans. She was the secretary of that group for many years.
I took to her immediately. When she was diagnosed she was one of the most brave, courageous women I knew. She was there for me, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. She and several other cancer sisters kept me going.
We will miss you Mae, but I know you will be watching over all of us and helping us from above. You have the most beautiful family. You kept telling us that, but they have shown it.
God Bless to you all, Edwina and Bob Elliott
