ARLENE COOPER IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Mary Arlene Burtenshaw Cooper, 83, of Ammon, died December 5, 2005, at her home of natural causes. She was born August 9, 1922, in Shelton, Idaho, to William Francis Burtenshaw and Olive Venise Humphrey Burtenshaw. She grew up in Shelton and attended schools at Buck and Ucon and graduated from Ucon High School. She married Wayne Carl Cooper April 17, 1941, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Arlene completed beauty school at the Vogue Beauty Salon and had her own shop in her home for many years. She was a housewife and mother. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served as President and counselor in Relief Society, President of Mutual, and taught classes in Relief Society, Sunday School, and Mutual. She was also a Jr. Sunday School Co-Ordinator, Music Director in all of the organizations, Choir director in most every ward, Dance Director, and Cultural Arts Director on the Activities Committee. She conducted a 60 voice chorus for nine years, taught a study class for nine years, and taught the Teacher Development Class. She worked for LDS Social Services for about 20 years in the Unwed Mother Program. Arlene enjoyed anything to do with music, camping, traveling, playing her organ, being with her family and crocheting. Survivors include her six children: W. Farris Cooper of Salt Lake City, Utah; Carol R. (Pharies) Hite of Topeka, Kansas; Thayne C. (Yvonne) Cooper of West Valley City, Utah; Val Gene (Patt) Cooper; Tamra (Mike) Phippen; Mary Jo (Marty) Sattison, all of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 26 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Chase of Honeyville, Utah and Lucile (Keith) Tibbitts of Hemet, California, and one brother, Claude (Bonnie) Burtenshaw of Layton, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne C. Cooper, her parents, a brother-in-law, Wilford Chase; and a sister-in-law, Frances Burtenshaw. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2005, at the Ammon LDS 18th Ward, 4459 John Adams, (corner of John Adams and Crowley Road), with Bishop Scott Bruce officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Wood East Side Chapel, 963 South Ammon Road, and for one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
