Martha Louise Barsale Owens

Martha Louise Barsale Owens, 72, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 2, 2022, at Homestead Assisted Living in Rexburg, surrounded by family and friends.

Martha was born January 15, 1950, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Reverend Herbert and Barbara Cookson Barsale. She grew up and mastered in trouble making at schools in Greenwich, Connecticut; Garden City, Long Island; and Liverpool, New York. She graduated from Liverpool High School. She went on to attend Ricks College where she surprised everyone by earning straight A's and making the Dean's list while completing her Associate's Degree.

On May 23, 1975, she married Laurence J Owens in the Washington Temple in Kensington, Maryland. Martha and Laurence lived, and raised their four children, all over the country before settling in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Martha worked as a home healthcare LPN.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She worked numerous years with the Cub Scouts and inspired many to start their paths toward earning their Eagle Award. She loved spending time doing genealogy and she was an avid reader. She enjoyed making ceramics and chocolates. She loved the outdoors, spending her time fishing, boating, camping, and waterskiing. She spent countless hours teaching her children her hobbies and skills, as well as instilling a healthy appreciation for good-hearted mischief in all of them.

Martha is survived by her loving husband, Laurence Owens of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Karen Rae (Travis) Higbee of Enid, OK; son, Richard Laurence (Tanda) Owens of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Michael Louis (Michelle) Owens of Lehi, UT; son, Stephen Nathaniel (Jayme) Owens of Ogden, UT; brother, Robert (Suzi) Barsale of Chicago, IL; sister, Lanny Barsale of Cobleskill, NY; sister, Marjorie (Al) Otto of St. Petersburg, FL; and 18 grandchildren: Nikita, Brian, Genevieve, Cody, Alexander, Andrew, Samantha, Taylor, Henry, Savannah, Kenna, Joseph, Charles, Kyler, Eli, Seraphina, Andrick, and Raegan.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2022, at The Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints, 2020 South Charlotte Drive, Idaho Falls, with Bishop Gregg Sharp presiding. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
