Marsha “Mushy” Shurtliff 59, of Hamer, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013 at her home from cancer. She was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.
Marsha was born January 14, 1954, in Rexburg, Idaho to Edwin Francis Leatham and Bessie Rose Leatham. She grew up in Rexburg and started school at Washington Elementary. When Marsha was 12, her family moved to Idaho Falls where she continued her education at Bush Elementary, OE Bell Junior High and Skyline High School.
After school, Marsha married Eldon Ball and they were blessed with two sons, Chris and Ray. They were later divorced.
On July 1, 1982, Marsha married Bill Shurtliff in Idaho Falls. On this day she became the mother to four more children, Jason, Cher, Dan and Anthony. Marsha enjoyed her family very much. She loved each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to spoil each of them in her own way.
Marsha worked in several places as a custodian, and later as a care giver for Good Samaritan and Valley Care. Marsha enjoyed working with the patients and had a love for each of them. She drove a taxi cab for City Cab in Idaho Falls. She also drove for the Mud Lake Ambulance and was a member of the Hamer Lions Club. She started the Hamer Lions Club Bazaar to hep raise money for the club.
Marsha was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the primary, cub scouts, Sunday school, and as a visiting teacher. Marsha was able to take out her own temple endowments and enjoyed attending the temple. She enjoyed camping, 4-wheeling, riding around the livestock, quilting and doing puzzles.
Marsha is survived by her husband, Bill, of Hamer, six children, Jason (Monique) Shurtliff of Parshall, North Dakota, Chris (Brooke) Ball, Cher (Dave) Pena, Ray Ball and Dan Shurtliff, all of Idaho Falls, and Anthony (Kim) Shurtliff of Rigby, Idaho, 17 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, one brother, and her father-in-law.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, three grandchildren, and her mother-in-law.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the Hamer LDS 1st Ward, 2454 East 2100 North, with Bishop Robert Ball officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday for one hour prior to the services, both at the church. Burial will be in West Jefferson Cemetery.
