Marsha Kay Shaffer, 79, of Idaho Falls, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Teton Healthcare of Cascadia.
She was born May 30,1946, in Clay County, Indiana, to Wayne Shaffer and Doris Corbin Shaffer. She was the youngest of six children. She graduated from Staunton High School in 1964, and Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Marsha was a talented artist who had her work displayed at Swope Art Gallery while attending Indiana State University. After graduating college, she was a P.E. teacher and coach in Perrysville, Indiana.
Marsha was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Marsha later moved to Logan, Utah, and then to Idaho Falls, Idaho. She started her mortgage banking career in Idaho Falls with Utah Mortgage Loan in 1976. She then worked for Crossland Mortgage, Bank of Idaho for fourteen years, and Charter Mortgage, from which she retired in 2010.
She loved traveling to Indiana and visiting family. She loved spending time at the cabin at Henry's Lake. She loved word searches, a good cup of 'Earl Grey' tea and biscotti, and marshmallows. Collecting unique hand carved walking sticks from the places she traveled. She was an avid reader with a collection of more than a 1000 books. She collected teapots that her nephew sent her from around the world. She loved to make her home-made noodles and mac and cheese for holidays to share with family and friends
While living in Idaho Falls, she joined the Maxfield family of Connie (Larry, deceased) Carlson, Carol (Rodger) Jensen and Judy Maxfield (deceased). She was given the title of Honorary Aunt Marsha by 23 Maxfield nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews who all called her Aunt Marsha for 50 years.
She is survived by her sister Mary JoAn Brown of Terre Haute, Indiana; Brothers Robert "Bob" Shaffer and Chuck (Susan) Shaffer all of Brazil, Indiana; and by many nieces and nephews of Indiana; and friend and caregiver Cammie Searle.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Wayne Shaffer, Doris Shaffer; brothers, Garry Shaffer and Max Shaffer; brother-in-law, David Brown; sisters-in-law, Shirley Shaffer and Phyllis Shaffer.
We would like to thank Teton Healthcare for the care of Marsha since 2021. (Michelle, Jamie, Liz, Shelly, Diane and many others.) Thank you to her friends who visited or phoned Marie, Anita, Christy, Myrna, Jean, Joanne, Mary.
No services are planned. She will be buried in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
