Marley A. Campbell - 05/06/2003 Marley A. Campbell - 05/06/2003 MARLEY A. CAMPBELL IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Marley Allen Campbell, 88, longtime Idaho Falls resident and well-known auctioneer, died May 2, 2003, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of heart failure. He was born November 2, 1914, at Richfield, Idaho, to William Elmer Campbell and Hannah Pamela Campbell. Marley attended elementary schools in the Grace and Soda Springs, Idaho, areas and graduated from high school in Caldwell, Idaho. He graduated with an Associate Degree from Gila Bend Junior College in Thatcher, Arizona. He received his rapid chant expertise from the Western School of Auctioneering in Billings, Montana. He married Bernita Gotch November 4, 1938, in Nampa, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in March, 1944, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. They had three sons: Lewis, Wade, and Steven. While Marley was attending college, he had a variety of jobs. Having been taught by his father to shear sheep, he traveled from southern California and Arizona to the Canadian border during his early married years shearing sheep. He also sold insurance for a short time, and built several apartment buildings, many homes, and a motel. When he turned to auctioneering in 1949, he had found his fe’s career. He worked as an auctioneer in asset liquidation for over 50 years, specializing in farm sales and livestock auctions. He was actively involved in buying, selling, and making “deals” until the end of his life. His Saturday-night auction sales at the InterValley Exchange were well known and attended by many residents of the Idaho Falls area. Marley enjoyed flying fishing, hunting, and especially loved riding, training, and breeding horses. One of his favorite things was collecting harnesses and buggies, and he was often asked to drive his buggies in the local parades. For the past 28 years, Marley and his wife, Bernita, have spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona. He toured the countryside with friends, bought trailers, and other merchandise to sell at the auction, and grew the sweetest grapefruit and oranges anyone has ever tasted. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as a High Priest, teacher, Scout Master, and in other callings. He loved scouting and influenced the lives of many young men with his high adventure trips to Bechler Meadows, Red Fish Lake and other wilderness areas. He also helped organize and is a charter member of the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team. Marley is survived by his wife, Bernita, of Idaho Falls; his sons: Lewis E. (Patricia) Campbell, Ogden, Utah; Wade Allen (Betty Jean) Campbell, Idaho Falls; Steven K. Campbell, Idaho Falls; his sister: Fauntella Rose Hill, Santa Rosa, California; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great, great, grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 20 brothers and sisters. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003, at the Garfield LDS 1st Ward, 258 West 1st North, Rigby, with Bishop Brent Stout officiating. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. If you would like to offer your condolences fill in the form below.
