Eva Marlene Hatton, 92, of Ammon, passed away April 29, 2025, at Teton Healthcare of Cascadia.
Marlene was born March 28, 1933, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Ruland Thomas Hatton and Eva Haroldsen Hatton. Marlene always loved to learn. She grew up and attended school in Ammon and graduated from Ammon High School. She then earned a B.S. from Ricks College and a M.S. from Brigham Young University. She did additional graduate studies at Utah State University, Arizona State University, University of Idaho, and University of Puget Sound.
Marlene made her home in Ammon and Rexburg, Idaho. She worked as a University Professor of Home Economics at Ricks College (BYU-Idaho). She was loved by her students, and even in recent years, was visited by several individuals who told her that she was their favorite professor—one who helped shape their lives for the good.
Marlene was loving and generous with her time and her means. She loved and helped many individuals, always seeking to do so quietly without recognition.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved studying and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. She always had unwavering faith in the Savior and his Gospel.
Marlene had incredible faith in prayer. In her last years, when her physical condition made it impossible to do anything more, she would say, "I'm praying for you and your family. Even the ones I can't remember their names—I'm praying for them. I know Heavenly Father knows who they are."
Marlene is survived by her sisters, LeOra (Chuck) Stevenson of Camarillo, California, and Carole Miller of Ammon, Idaho; nephews and nieces, Bruce (Valerie) Miller of Sandy, Utah, Paula (Bruce) Johnston of Canyon, Texas, Brad (Suzette) Miller of Iona, Idaho, and Angie (Dan) McDonald of Cedar Hills, Utah; plus many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was considered a mom and grandmother to all her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruland and Eva Hatton; brother, Richard Hatton; and brother-in-law, Wayne Miller.
