MARJORIE ANN METCALF
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Marjorie Ann Bloxham Metcalf, age 89, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2007, at the Idaho Falls Health and Rehab.
She was born October 23, 1918, in Ucon, Idaho, to John and Elizabeth Davis Bloxham. She attended schools in Idaho Falls.
She married Ray Metcalf July 15, 1936, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They lived in San Francisco, California, Salmon, Idaho and eventually settled in Idaho Falls. Together she and Ray bought their first home on 10th Street across from Kate Curley Park. They made a beautiful home for family and friends to gather together, sharing with all. Marjorie and Ray grew beautiful gardens with plentiful vegetables, flowers and especially the roses. Marjorie loved an immaculate home, cooking, pastry and candy making and wonderful meals.
Marjorie retired from the Utility Department of the City of Idaho Falls. Ray passed away December 4, 1996. Marjorie remained in their home after Ray's passing. Together they lived on 10th Street for sixty years.
Marjorie loved her neighbors, family and friends. She loved nature, beautiful flowers, watching the birds and feeding the squirrels. Her greatest love in the mornings was when she would open up her drapes to look and enjoy the nature around her and the trees of Kate Curley Park. Her special companion was her dog, Maggie, who remained at her side at all times. As Marjorie's health declined she moved to the Gables of Ammon where she resided for two and a half years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her parents, a sister, Vella and five brothers, Harvey, Chick, Alton, John and Dave. She is survived by her children, Rodney Ray Metcalf, Ann Ker (K.D.), and John Metcalf (Becky), a brother, Dean Bloxham, nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
The family would like to acknowledge the kind assistance provided by the staff at The Gables of Ammon, as well as the staff of the Idaho Falls Health and Rehab. They would also like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers of Creekside Hospice who are truly angels on this earth.
Thank you to her family and friends who surrounded her with much love and compassion. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Creekside Hospice, 3686 Washington Parkway, Idaho Falls, ID 83404..
So, Mom, as we say,
"I love you"
we can hear back,
"Love you more!"
At Marjorie’s request, Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2007, at the Ucon Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, Idaho Falls.

The moon and the stars were not quite as bright when we heard about Grandma, the world now seems a little less interesting, and we are sad down to our socks. She was the epitome of kindness, generosity, warmth, sassiness, and she always spoke her mind AND her heart. She loved without holding back anything, and we are all thankful to have had her love in our lives. I will miss most her sharp wit and her wonderful, dirty jokes, her sayings to fit every occassion, especially "Waste not, want not." I first loved her when she was mad and said "Doesn't that just frost your balls!" That sealed it for me. Her chicken and noddles will forever be my favorite thing, but
only in memory, because I haven't had them in many many years. Second is the 5 (6??) layer chocolate cake that she would make at the drop of a hat, just for the asking - and I asked over and over. She was the only person who has ever called me "Sue," except for Ray, and I never let anyone else ever call me that. It made me feel more special, somehow. Even with the things that happened in our lives, she always called, she always laughed with me, she always told me she loved me and the kids, and I never got off the phone from
talking with her that I didn't have a smile for a long time afterwards. The last time I saw her in her new little home away from home, I surprised her - she threw her arms around me and we laughed like crazy. I knew she was failing, that her health wasn't good, but it was as if she was 30 years younger and we were enjoying just sitting together like we always did. It's one of my favorite times with her. She was simply cracker-jack wonderful, and I will always love and miss her. The kids all have pictures of her and Ray, they have wonderful, clear, childhood memories of them, but they still always talk about sitting in her lap and being rocked in her arms - that will stay with them forever. Our most loving thanks to your mother for being in our lives for these past 35 years. We love you, Grandma.
