Mariner Bair

GLEN BAIR IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Mariner Glen Bair, 83, of Idaho Falls, died June 29, 2004, at Life Care Center. He was born October 4, 1920, in Logan, Utah, to Mariner Bair and Oneata Thorpe Bair. In 1924, the family moved to a farm west of Idaho Falls, where Glen grew up and helped on the farm. He also worked for other farmers. He attended school in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He then attended Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) in Logan, Utah, where he received a degree in auto mechanics. During World War II he joined the U. S. Marine Corps and served with the 2nd Marine Division as they fought through the Pacific campaign, then with the 5th Marine Division as they occupied Japan. Glen returned home with a dream of owning and running a shop. He went to welding school, then purchased property on Utah Avenue. He built two buildings for his business, Bair Equipment Company doing most of the construction of the buildings himself. He designed, made and sold products for farmers and also many custom products customers needed. His oldest nephews were privileged to work for him in the summers learning how to work safely around heavy machinery and acquiring a healthy work ethic. Glen participated in football in high school and college and also wrestling in the college. When young, he bought and learned to play an accordion. Glen loved keeping up with sports including how the local schools were doing. He loved history, especially of the West, reading and collecting many great history books during his adult life. He also loved and collected good music. He enjoyed keeping in touch with classmates from his high school graduating class and enjoyed being involved in the reunions. He was teased for being the only bachelor in the class. Glen is survived by a brother and three sisters, including Veloy Kunz of Preston, Idaho, Beatrice (Orvin) McGavin of Idaho Falls, Von Bair of Bethany, Connecticut, and Barbara (Kay) Hawks of Moab, Utah. He is also survived by three generations of nieces and nephews. He loved and enjoyed all of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at the Logan City Cemetery in Logan, Utah, with Michael Kunz officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, Idaho Falls. Mmilitary Rites will be performed by the American Legion Post in Logan. Arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
