Marilyn Anderson, 89, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, went to be with her precious Lord on May 27, 2025, at her home, with her family at her bedside.
Marilyn was born June 29, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Charles Adolf Planert and Lillian Ganoe Planert. She loved growing up at Clemma's farm in rural Pennsylvania where she fed chickens, churned butter by hand, baked homemade bread, and played with her scruffy mutt, "Rags." She went on to graduate from Wilkinsburg High School near Pittsburgh where she enjoyed drama and acting. After graduation, she went to nursing school for two years until the love of her life, Robert L. Anderson, from Pittsburgh swept her off her feet.
On November 2, 1955, she married Robert and lived in the suburbs of Pittsburgh. Over the next 17 years, Marilyn raised six children and took them on several camping trips all around the country in a little pop-up tent camper the family named "Skooter Pie.” She was actively involved in several church activities including bible studies, women's groups, and children ministries.
Having the gift of hospitality, it's no surprise that she welcomed needy people into her home where she provided meals, lodging, and heaps of kindness. In 1982, they moved to Idaho Falls where she continued serving her family and others. Often, her grown children would bring friends by where they would be greeted with a hug and a warm meal. Over time, her home was affectionately known as the "AFR" (Anderson Family Restaurant).
In recent years, church activities became a focal point. Marilyn loved getting to know the church members and praying for them. She was considered a prayer warrior as she spent hours every day in her prayer room. For years, she conducted a ladies bible study in her home where women sipped coffee, learned about Jesus, and ministered to each other before leaving with that heart-melting hug of hers. Her other major passion was loving her six children, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren were especially drawn to her, and she blessed them with gifts, tender words of encouragement, life lessons, and prayers. Her favorite past time activities included Bible reading, word puzzles, viewing family photos, and viewing sermons and podcasts on her iPad.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Robert L. Anderson of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Roberta Lynn (Samuel) Pagano of Bethel Park, PA; son, John Christian Anderson of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Merrie (Paul) Hart of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Robert Stephen (Kendra) Anderson of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Timothy Mark (Kelly) Anderson of Idaho Falls, ID; and son, David Lee (Dannell) Anderson of Garden Plain, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lillian Planert; sisters, Sally Stahovic and Suzie Parotta-McCarthy; and brother, Charles Planert.
A private family service will be held with plans to have it recorded and make it available for viewing on this website.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a monetary donation towards bibles through Gideon's International, in Marilyn's name, by visiting the Gideon's International website .
