Marie Helen Mueller Putnam, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away September 27, 2018, at MorningStar Senior Living Center. She was under the care of Encompass Hospice.
Marie was born March 9, 1933, in Jennings, Missouri, to Benjamin Mueller and Dorothy Trapp Mueller. She grew up and attended schools in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Webster College in Missouri, with a bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics.
On October 30, 1961, she married Glen Elden Putnam in Las Vegas, Nevada. Marie’s first career was with McDonald Douglas at their wind tunnel research facility in Missouri. They then moved to Idaho where Marie worked at the INL. She had a brilliant scientific mind and was a pioneer in computer programming.
She was an active member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed tutoring children, reading, and quilting. Marie always wanted to learn something new. She supported building the Children’s Museum and was a volunteer at the museum.
Marie is survived by her sister, Jean Ruth Mueller of St. Louis, MO; brother, James Mueller of St. Louis, MO; brother, Thomas Mueller of St. Louis, MO; sister, Ann Mueller of St. Louis, MO; and sister-in-law, Beryl Duffin of Davis, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Elden Putnam, her parents, brother, Sonny Mueller, and sisters, Dorothy Mueller, Jane Mueller, and Lois Mueller.
Services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 145 9th Street in Idaho Falls, with Father Raul Covarrubias, officiating. Friends are welcome from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
