Our mother and grandmother, Marie Margaret Miller Cousin of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2024, just one month shy of her 93rd birthday.
Marie was born on June 17, 1931, in Denver, Colorado, and later as a young woman, settled with her parents in Idaho Falls. It was there after graduating from Shelley High School where she met her future husband, Leonard Cousin. They later married on July 1, 1950, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and were later sealed for eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Marie was not only Leonard's wife and sweetheart, but the backbone of their farming and ranching business. If Marie wasn't taking care of their children or home, she was working alongside Leonard tending animals, managing the bookkeeping or cooking for all the ranch hands, early morning until night. This ability to make a feast in a short amount of time followed her throughout her life. Her cooking talents often seemed like magic.
Marie and Leonard were blessed with two sons who Marie dedicated her life to teaching and serving. Marie was a woman of faith who spent much of her time serving others in her ward and community and using her talents to serve others. She was very talented with needlework. If she was sitting down resting from work, she had a pair of knitting needles or a crochet hook in her hands and was always working on projects for others in need or to give as gifts to people she knew and loved. She rarely made anything for herself.
Marie was also a talented painter, often painting landscape scenes from Southeastern Idaho and Wyoming. Most recognizable were the Teton mountain range which she loved to paint. She spent many visits with grandchildren tutoring them in the art of painting, many of whom have her artwork hanging in their houses.
Marie was adored by her two children; six grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. Many of those great grandchildren referred to her as "Grandma Gigi." Their lives are better because of her life and dedication to her family.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, three brothers, and her husband.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, Ammon, Idaho. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
