MARIE G. FIELD
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Blanche Marie Garner Martin Field, age 72, of Idaho Falls, died October 28, 2002, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of lupus and related conditions.
Marie (as she became known) was born September 14, 1930, in Idaho Falls, the first child of Leo Leroy Garner and Ethel Adeline Stoneberg Garner. Her three siblings are Merle Leroy, who died of pneumonia at the age of six, Ronald (nicknamed “Hank”), and Sharol “Sherry.”
When Marie was ten, the family moved to a farm in Roberts, and she really learned how to work. She graduated from Roberts High School, where she was student body president and valedictorian of her class. She attended the University of Idaho. Marie worked as a waitress, bookkeeper, teacher’s aide, and as an accounting assistant.
She married Herbert Martin October 9, 1953. Three boys were born to them – David Wayne, Danny Paul, and Richard Hal. Marie and Herb lived most of their married life on an acreage where she raised a big garden, berries, and many flowers. Except for short periods of time, Marie was always employed outside the home.
Marie and Herb were divorced in 1980. In 1981 she married Grant W. Field and they bought a home in Idaho Falls.
Marie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and, from the time her boys were young, she served in the Primary and Relief Society organizations as a teacher, counselor, and Secretary. Her last calling was as compassionate service leader, which was very dear to her heart.
She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers for several years, having served as company historian, company secretary, and camp secretary. The association of the sisters in her ward and fellow DUP members, plus the motivation to write pioneer histories, greatly enriched her life.
Marie enjoyed reading, walking, gardening, and traveling. She took many trips with her husband, Grant, and later with her sister.
She is survived by her husband, Grant W. Field, and her son, Richard H. Martin, of Idaho Falls, a sister, Sherry (Mel) Rozema of Centerville, Utah, her stepson, Steven (Ruthie) Field of Boise, a granddaughter, Linda Marley, of Shelley, a step-granddaughter, Amanda Field, of Boise, and adopted grandchildren, Becky Elliott and Tim Marley, of Boise, and Ashley, Trevyan and Peter Marley, of Idaho Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, her two sons, Danny and David, and her grandson, Jeffery.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS Grandview Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Bishop Grand Leavitt officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge) and for one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
