MARGRET "PEGGY" START
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Margret Elise Start, "Peggy" as she was known, was born November 5, 1925, in Manila, Philippine Islands, the firstborn daughter of John and Elise Hirsch Mears. Peggy grew up in both the Philippines and California.
She married Jack Dennis Sr. in 1947 and had two children, Jack and Peggy Ann. Later she was married to Gene Start until his death in 1995. Peggy was a devout Catholic who loved to sing and write poetry. Many of her poems were published in many books. Her greatest source of pride was writing poems for her friends and family. She was inducted into the Poetry Hall of Fame.
Her almost 20 year marriage to Gene Start was some of the happiest days of her life. They lived in Salt Lake City and Idaho. They loved to sing and dance and Gene play the harmonica. She was the longest living resident at the Idaho Falls Care Center from 1993 to her death January 8, 2007.
She shall be sorely missed by everybody at the center. Everybody enjoyed her stories and her great sense of humor. She battled breast cancer for five years and hardly anyone would know what she was going through because of her bright and sunny attitude. She was never afraid of dying and lived her faith every day of her life. We will all miss her.
She is survived by her son, Jack Jr. and daughter, Peggy Ann Butler, grandchildren Brian Dennis, Amy Shuckra, Ann Dennis, Robin Butler and Bobbie Butler, great-grandchildren Jack and Ben Shuckra; sister, Elise; brother-in-law, (Ed) Neuman; and nieces Laura and Kathy Neuman.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007, at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 17th & Woodruff, with Father Joe McDonald officiating.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, and a reception will follow at the church.

I first met Peggy when she came to the Care Center where we volunteers helped with church services. She was always smiling, and I still have copies of poems she had written. We recently reread those poems from the 90s at one of the services. I enjoyed sharing her fantasy world with her, which was real to her. Her faith meant so much to her as she imagined the Pope and Mother Theresa visiting her and she would wait for them, and then would say their plane was delayed.
I have missed her dearly and sharing Sundays with her.
A plaque she gave me in the 90s sets in our living room with the scripture from Isaiah 40:31 - "but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with Wings as Eagles..."
Her strength is renewed.
May our Lord's peace be with you, her family.
