Margaret "Peggy" L. (Monson) Winters

Margaret “Peggy” L. Winters, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 17, 2024, at Idaho Falls Community Hospital.

Peggy was born August 15, 1940, in Spokane, Washington, to George K. Monson and Loucille Smuin Monson. Her mother passed away when she was four years old, so she was raised by her step-mother, Louana Oakey Monson. She graduated from Weber High School in 1958.

Peggy married Ted Smith August 6, 1960, in Nevada. They were later divorced. She married George A Winters on August 7, 1968, in Idaho. Peggy worked many years in the grocery industry as a meat cutter. She worked at Buttery Food & Drug for 22 years. After her retirement, Peggy worked in the lunch room at Taylorview Junior High for ten years.

Peggy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved spending time camping, boating, and fishing. She enjoyed gardening and she was gifted in crocheting. Over the years, she crocheted many beautiful items for family and friends.

Peggy is survived by her children, Cheryl L (Brett) O'Connell of Idaho Falls, ID, Shauna L. Thacker of Boise, ID, Carl (Donna) Smith of Idaho Falls, ID, Randy (Tim) Winters of Shelley, ID, Karen (Mahlon) Heileson of Idaho Falls, ID, and Melanie (Larry) Anderson of Idaho Falls, ID; 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Louana Oakey; husband, George A Winters; son, Robert Winters; grandson, Jared Winters; and grandson, Jason Heileson.

A gathering will be held at a later date.
