Lynn Jay “Turbo” Kirby, 69, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully at his home July 28, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Lynn was born April 5, 1944, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Wesley J. Kirby and Norma Anderson Kirby. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School and Ricks College before serving a full time two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in California.
On May 6, 1970, he married his wife, Martha Anderson, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they raised five children, RaeLyn, Dana, DaNel, Raymond, and Jason. Lynn worked at Bechtel-Bettis Naval Facility for 36 years and retired in 2006. The years after his retirement were the best of his life. He loved being out on the road driving, whether for work or pleasure. He had several part-time jobs: escorting funeral processions to the cemetery for Scott Motor Escorts, driving for Wood Funeral Home, and delivering cars for Teton Toyota. He was on top of the world when he received a call to go to work. It is unfortunate that he didn’t have more time to do what he loved.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lynn served as ward organist and choir director for several years. He spent many enjoyable years as a member of the Civil Air Patrol, where he was the Commander for over five years. He loved flying and was very proud of the accomplishments of the members and cadets.
Lynn also enjoyed going to the drag races in Las Vegas with his family and friends and spent many great times there. He also loved going to the Oregon coast, enjoying time relaxing on the beach, and camping with his children and grandchildren. Lynn loved spending time with his grandchildren, telling them stories and taking them to the airport to see the planes.
