Lynn James Barrie

Lynn James Barrie, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away, July 20, 2023, at his home.  Seven years ago Lynn was asked by a family member to provide a life sketch for a genealogical history she was composing. It is from his own words that this is written.

I was born in Idaho Falls, March 30, 1940, as a twin with Lloyd at the LDS Hospital. I grew up in Ucon, Idaho. I went to school at Ucon Elementary from First Grade to Ninth, and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1958.

I worked around Ucon for grandfather Arch Barrie, uncle Andrew Barrie, and cousin Robert Barrie. In 1960, I started working in Idaho Falls at Roger Brother's Potato, and worked there until 1979 when Basic American Foods purchased the company. I continued to work, driving truck, for Basic American Foods until 2005, when I partially retired but continued to work part time for the company.

In 1960, I joined the Idaho National Guard where I served until 1966. During that time I was sent to Fort Ord, California for six months. In 1961, President Kennedy called up the Guard to Fort Lewis, Washington where I was stationed until 1962.

I met Karen Mai and we were married September 14, 1962. Our son Craig was born on May 23, 1963, and our daughter Lauri was born October 28, 1967. We bought a house on 8th street in Idaho Falls in 1963 where we lived until 1973. In 1973, we bought a house on Morningstar Lane where we still live today. I enjoy riding my motorcycle, camping with my family in the summer, and shooting my guns.

We have seven grandchildren. Our son, Craig, has three children, Amanda, Preston, and Sasha.  Our daughter, Lauri, has four children, Danielle, Shawnie, and the twins Kenyon and Kenzie.  We have fifteen great-grandchildren and two on the way.

I feel I've had a great life. Never wanted for anything.

As he mentioned, Lynn was born on March 30, 1940, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to James Richie Barrie and Evelyn Davenport Barrie.  He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the Idaho National Guard.

Lynn is survived by his loving wife, Karen Barrie of Idaho Falls; son, Craig Barrie of Idaho Falls; daughter, Lauri (Troy) Smith of Idaho Falls; his twin brother, Lloyd (Ann) Barrie of Idaho Falls; sister, Bonnie (Mark) Brandt of Gresham, Oregon; sister-in-law, Rayola Dodge; brother, David Barrie of Arco, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren with two on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Evelyn Barrie; in-laws, Arlene and Oscar Mai; sister, Denise Jenkins; and brother-in-law, Richard Dodge.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m, Thursday, July 27, 2023, at the Ucon Cemetery.  The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m to 10:45 a.m at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue.  Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
