Lyndon Lobark “Lynn” Skidmore, 82, of Ammon, passed away November 6, 2021, at his home.
Lynn was born on March 25, 1939, in Richmond, Utah, as the fourth son of Cyrus Randolph and Helen Timmins Skidmore, after his brothers, Bill, Dick, and Lee. Lee and Lynn were twins, but Lee was born first, and teased Lynn his whole life about being the youngest.
Lynn married Dorothy Thompson in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on December 21, 1962. They were blessed with four children: Jodi, Darin, Eric, and Jason.
Lynn grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Richmond. He was tasked with milking the cows each day before school, and again before bed. He thought the worst part about milking cows was when a cow shifted its feet and put a dirty hoof into a bucket when it was nearly full. But the best part was that his dad sold their milk and cream to Casper’s Dairy. Lynn enjoyed getting ice cream with his brothers there and telling the clerk to “put the cost on the milk tab.” Lynn enjoyed Casper’s signature Fat Boy ice cream sandwiches and Casco Nut Sundaes all his life. When Lynn was young, his dad gave him a cow, and selling milk from this cow provided Lynn with weekly spending money.
Lynn graduated from North Cache High School in 1957, after which, he moved to Idaho Falls to work building houses for his brother, Dick. Lynn began installing custom countertops during the evenings and on weekends. Eventually, he started his own business, Lynn’s Custom Countertops. People often asked how much plastic laminate he had lain over the years. His answer, which began as “a lot” early in his career, changed to “over a million square feet” by the time he retired. Lynn enjoyed work. Whether on a job site, in his garden, or a project for his children, he always gave his best effort and took pride in his accomplishments.
Lynn took joy in church service throughout his life. As a young man, he served as a missionary in the California mission. Over the years, he filled many other positions, including in the MIA program, the Deacons Quorum, Sunday School presidencies, and High Priest Group Leaderships. After retirement, Lynn and Dorothy served two church service missions at the Idaho Falls Deseret Industries. While Dorothy taught job skills, Lynn filled any need he could find. Aside from his work and service in the church, Lynn enjoyed golfing, gardening, playing with his grandchildren, and the occasional fishing trip.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrus and Helen; wife, Dorothy; brother, Dick; and two of his grandchildren, Josh and Joy.
He is survived by his children, Jodi (Jaren) Robison, Darin Skidmore, Eric (Amy Jean) Skidmore, Jason (Erica) Skidmore; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and his brothers, Bill Skidmore and Lee (Carol) Skidmore.
