LUKE JONES IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Luther Handley Jones, 83, of Idaho Falls, died March 19, 2008, at Syringa House. He was born February 21, 1925, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Luther Harrison Jones and Ruby Margaret Potter Jones. He grew up and attended schools in the area, graduating from Idaho Falls High School. He was a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army Air Corp and served as a Navigator on a B-24 crew during World War II. Later, he attended Idaho State College, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in math and physics. On February 4, 1946, he married Dorothea Claire Cook in Idaho Falls. He worked at the Idaho National Laboratory as a Nuclear Engineer. He received his Professional Engineers (P.E.) License in Chemical Engineering. He also was a member of Toastmasters and the Idaho Falls Woodcarvers Association. Luke enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodcarving. Survivors include: Wife: Dorothea Jones, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Carolyn Lee (Joe) Alvarez, Knoxville, TN Son: Luther H. (Linda) Jones, Boise, ID Son: K. C. (Chris) Jones, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Douglas Wade Jones, Colorado Springs, CO Daughter: Patricia Louise Lenon, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Reese Darren (Laura) Jones, Idaho Falls, ID Sister: Ruby Miller, Brewster, WA Sister: Ann Price, Mt. Pleasant, IA Sister: Jane Arnold, Idaho Falls, ID Sister: Hazel Meyers, Boise, ID 19 Grandchildren & 6 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy and Shirley; and a brother, Donald. A Gathering for family and friends will be held from 6-7 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge. He had presence and spoke words that were worth hearing. Throughout my life I heard how he helped others in his family. I will miss his wise, calm presence when I visit the west.
